"Eco Encore is an innovative way to support environmental protection. It's a 'triple bottom line' approach that benefits individuals, environmental organizations and the planet." - Jon Stahl, Eco Encore board member

John Barnhardt, originally from Alaska, got involved in community and nonprofit work as a Peace Corps volunteer in Malawi. Upon returning from Africa, John accepted a technology position with the farthest north school district in the US in Barrow, Alaska, where he worked for 3 years. He subsequently moved to Anchorage and entered the telecommunications industry. John continues to work in this field, focusing specifically on the development of technology solutions for the education and healthcare markets.

Colin Duffy returned to the Pacific Northwest to attend the University of Washington MBA program and graduated in 1999.  In his career Colin has worked with several local technology start-ups in various capacities.  Currently, Colin works for Sterling Savings Bank as a commercial lender.  Colin is Treasurer of Eco Encore.

Pat Magnafichi is a transplant from the Midwest who has made Seattle her home since 1993. Although a microbiologist by training, Pat's career path somehow mysteriously landed her in the finance organization of a local biotechnology company.  She recently committed two years of her life to the UW Executive MBA program.  Resurfacing after graduation, she decided to look around for a local organization where her business experience and education might be of some use in the community, and Eco Encore fit the bill perfectly. She recently finished a term as Eco Encore's President, and is now focusing her efforts on developing new outreach programs for us.

Bruce Moore brings his experience from three successful and extended careers in human services, marketing communications, and e-commerce, most recently as a member of the Marketplace team at Amazon.com. Today he is a free-lance photographer focusing on the natural beauty of wildlife and landscape, as well as musicians performing in urban settings. Prior to entering the workforce Bruce attended San Francisco State University and served four years in the USN Submarine Service.

Sloan Ritchie is known for his take-charge attitude, sharp persona and always-at-work analytical mind. As the founder of Cascade Built, a Seattle-based green real estate company, he has successfully aligned his career with his personal values and interest in sustainability. Sloan spent eight years in the wireless industry and received an MBA from the University of Washington in 2003. One of Sloan's goals is to use his business experience to make a significant, positive contribution to the community. A Seattle native, Sloan can be found on summer weekends with his wife, Jennifer, windsurfing in the Columbia Gorge or helping to retrieve the most recent Eco Encore donations in his Biodiesel-sipping VW. Sloan is President of the Eco Encore Board of Directors.

Jon Stahl works at ONE/Northwest (Online Networking for the Environment), where he serves as technology consultant, communications strategist and sometime organizational therapist to environmental nonprofits throughout the Northwest. Jon has lived in Seattle since 1996; most folks can't pick him out as the native New Yorker he is.  A deeply committed environmentalist, Jon also serves on the board of Washington Toxics Coalition and provides a wide range of volunteer support to many other regional nonprofits.  Jon is the Secretary of the Eco Encore Board of Directors.

Gilda Wheeler currently divides her time between two education organizations. She is the Program Director of the non-profit organization, Facing the Future: People and the Planet. Facing the Future develops global issues and sustainability curriculum for use by middle and high school students across the U.S and around the world. Gilda also serves as the Environmental and Natural Resource Education Coordinator for the Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. Before moving to Seattle, Gilda spent four years teaching language arts at an independent high school in California. She lives in Seattle with her husband, Ben, and their border collie, Abby.

Matt Aspin is the board's human resource and organizational development expert. He is the Training and Development Manager at Boeing Employees Credit Union (BECU), and is also a member of the Seattle Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management. Matt is Vice President of the Eco Encore Board of Directors.

Sallie Lin is one of the newest members of our board. She landed in Seattle after graduating from college and following two friends who got jobs at Microsoft. Her first idea was to impact the physical and social environment by becoming an urban planner, then later, a low-income housing developer. Currently, she is an attorney at a small law firm that helps nonprofit organizations build affordable housing.

Tom Murphy focuses on service learning activities for Eco Encore. He came to us through a chance exchange at an outreach event - when he learned of our mission, he thought we'd be perfect for a service learning project at his school. Dr. Murphy is the Chair of the Anthropology Department at Edmonds Community College, and he's extremely committed to engaging his students in a range of community service and experiential learning opportunities.
