The Northwest Environmental Education Council provides in-school and after-school environmental education programs for youth; training programs for school teachers; training programs for environmental professionals (e.g., scientists, engineers, and government agency staff); and service learning programs for all ages that improve environmental quality (e.g., native habitat restoration and natural resource conservation).

The mission of Puget Soundkeeper Alliance is to protect and preserve Puget Sound by tracking down and stopping the discharge of toxic pollutants into its waters. While it is not their only approach to conservation efforts in the Sound, it is one of their greatest strengths.

Washington Trails Association (WTA) is the voice for hikers in Washington state. WTA protects hiking trails and wild lands, takes thousands of volunteers out to maintain trails, and promotes hiking as a healthy, fun way to explore Washington.

The Nature Consortium is a grassroots, community-based organization whose mission is to teach environmental lessons through the creative arts and hands-on conservation projects. They produce a Youth Art Program, an Urban Forest Restoration Project and the Arts~in~Nature Festival.

Transportation Choices Coalition believes Washington's transportation system needs to be reformed. Too many residents cannot choose to leave the car at home because there are few or no other options. Transportation Choices Coalition seeks to bring Washingtonians more and better transportation choices -- real opportunities to take a bus, take a train, ride a bike, or walk -- as well as drive alone.

Futurewise is a statewide public interest group working to promote healthy communities and cities while protecting farmland, forests and shorelines today and for future generations. They are the only statewide group in Washington working to ensure that local governments manage growth responsibly. Founded in 1990, Futurewise has established an impressive track record on growth management issues as the state's primary advocate for smart growth policies.

The Homewaters Project mission is to create an engaged and informed citizenry by connecting people to nature and each other in the context of their home communities. Homewaters Project serves the students of the Seattle area, their teachers, and members of the community. Recognizing the importance of connecting all students to their home place, they work hard to make their programs available to underserved populations.

The Polishing Stone Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of our lives, creating community and caring for the world. They publish a creative, concise and ad-free publication called Polishing Stone; this magazine conveys helpful tips for mindful, sustainable living, and is based on the idea that we are creating our lives and our world, choice by choice.

Orca Network is dedicated to raising awareness about the whales of the Pacific Northwest, and the importance of providing them healthy and safe habitats. A community is emerging that is increasingly attuned to the orca population, that cares about and tries to understand the needs of the resident and transient orcas that inhabit the Salish Sea.

 The Stilly-Snohomish Fisheries Enhancement Task Force is a charitable organization with the Washington Secretary of State. Their membership represents commercial, tribal, and recreational fishing interests, conservation organizations, the agricultural community, and area businesses. The mission of the Task Force is to ensure the future of salmon in the Stillaguamish and Snohomish River and Island County watersheds.

Sightline Institute

is a not-for-profit research and communication center--a think tank--based in Seattle and founded in 1993 by Alan Durning. Sightline's mission is to bring about sustainability--a healthy, lasting prosperity grounded in place. Nonpartisan and wholly independent, Sightline's only ideology is commitment to the shared values of strong communities, fair markets, and responsible stewardship. Their focus is Cascadia, or the Pacific Northwest.
